Eddie Hearn Drops Another Purse Bid To Frank Warren!
At the WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a purse bid was held for the WBO Interim super middleweight title contest between current WBO middleweight champ Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) and WBO number one ranked super middleweight, Zach Parker (22-0, 16 KOs).
With a bid of $1,834,050, Frank Warren’s Queensbury Promotions outbid Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Promotions’ offer of $1.75 million to land the bout. Andrade will receive 65 percent of the split, while Parker gets 35 percent. The fight will take place on May 21.
Andrade – Parker was ordered on January 28. A ten-day extension was granted to both parties to come to terms on February 16. A deal could not be reached, which was the reason for the February 24 purse bid.
A BAD SIGN FOR MATCHROOM?
The surprising aspect is for the second significant fight in a row, Warren was able to outbid Hearn. On the day the WBO ordered Andrade – Parker, he outdueled Hearn to win the promotional rights for the upcoming April 23 clash between WBC heavyweight Tyson Fury and mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.
One would think with Andrade being a two-division world champion and the A-side fighter, Matchroom would handle their business and summon the dollars to secure the fight with Parker. Does Matchroom have the same pull that it used to? Is this a sign that Hearn doesn’t feel that “Boo Boo” is worth the money? Whatever is the case, you must think that privately, the middleweight champ is not happy about today’s developments.
As a result, he will have to fight outside of the United States for only the second time in his career. In a released statement on their website, the WBO indicated the fight could happen in either London, Derby, or Birmingham. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for continued updates.
