Eddie Hearn Calls Bullshit on Teofimo Lopez

When his unification bout with unified lightweight champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s) went up in smoke, Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez was cast into limbo. Left with no dance partner, the IBF world lightweight champion says that he and his team began seeking the next best available fight. However, let Lopez tell it, top boxers like WBC world lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15 KO’s) and Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s) were running scared.

Once Haney got wind of Lopez’s claims, he quickly took to social media to call El Brooklyn a liar. In the social media post where Teofimo said that reached out to his fellow fighters, he specifically states that his team sent word to Eddie Hearn. Hearn is the co-promoter of Devin Haney. Now, similar to his high profile client, Haney, Hearn has taken to social media to debunk El Brooklyn’s accusations.

SPELL MY NAME RIGHT!!

Less than twenty four hours since Teofimo Lopez literally called Haney and Ryan Garcia a bunch of bitches, both Haney and Hearn have come forward calling bullshit. The Dream was more straight forward in his retort, while Eddie Hearn chose to be somewhat humorous. The UK Matchroom Boxing promoter poked fun at Lopez throwing an “s” on his name during the video post.

Hearn joked that if Team Lopez did send an offer, they must have shipped it to the wrong person. Yet, after the small bit of merriment, Eddie Hearn clarified that he thought Haney v Lopez was a great fight that was perfectly available.

Whether or not Team Lopez sent out requests to fight at this point is immaterial. Now that all parties are openly talking about their availability and willingness to face one another, ideally we can actually get the Haney v Lopez showdown. The only question now is who will officially step up and make the next big lightweight fight?
