Eddie Hearn Optimistic On Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano Rematch in 2023
One of the best fights of 2022 took place in April when undisputed women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) defended those titles with a ten-round split-decision win over the unified champ Amanda Serrano (43-2-1, 30 KOs). Now, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, a rematch may be greenlit for 2023.
WORKING HARD BEHIND THE SCENES
For it to happen, Taylor insists it happen at Croke Park in her home country of Ireland. Promoter Eddie Hearn handles the career of Serrano. During a Q&A on social media, the man behind Matchroom Boxing was asked about the matter and said the following:
“Basically, we’re all over it. It’s the only thing we want to do. We’re negotiating with Most Valuable Promotions. We’re closing in on a deal.
Serrano could fight for (featherweight) undisputed as well against (WBA champ) Erika Cruz in early February. We want to make it happen in Croke Park. We’re doing everything we can and I’ll think we’ll make it happen.”
Taylor – Serrano was a thriving success as the ladies went toe-to-toe at the famed Madison Square Garden. Many observers felt they would fight again before the end of this year. But, that was not the case.
Instead, Serrano moved back down to 126 and scored a unanimous decision win over Sarah Mahfoud in a featherweight unification bout in September 2022. Taylor went on to score a unanimous decision win over mandatory challenger Karen Elizabeth Carbajal in October 2022.
The hope is that Taylor – Serrano II will happen in the first quarter of 2023. Taylor and Serrano are on record wanting to fight each other again. Fans and pundits would love to see them duke it out one more time. All that’s left is for the rematch to be finalized and announced. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for continued updates.
