Eddie Hearn hopes to make a Tevin Farmer vs Gervonta Davis unification bout soon
In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn stated if IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer wins his March 15 title defense against Jono Carroll, he will seek out WBA champion Gervonta Davis. This fight has been nearly three years in the making, and hopefully this time, both sides can come to an agreement.
Hearn laid out a plan to get the fight made while making some startling accusations. He pointed out one of the obvious conflicts, which is the fighters’ network obligations. Farmer is with DAZN and Davis primarily fights on Showtime.
He also claimed that his offers would’ve been for career high purses for Davis; stating he’s offered between two-four million for the fight. However, the eye-popping claim was that he’d contacted both Mayweather Promotions and Davis directly regarding the fight, but believes the WBA champion wasn’t made aware of his proposals.
Unfortunately there wasn’t any follow up to this statement because if he contacted Davis directly, how could he not have known? Hopefully we’ll get further details on that comment.
As for now the most important thing is for Farmer to successfully defend his title. Davis was set to defend his title February 9 against Abner Mares. However, the three-division champion sustained an injury and won’t be available.
This fight would be an excellent event due to the fighters contrasting styles and backgrounds. Davis is an undefeated blue chip prospect from Baltimore who’s steamrolled his way through his competition so far. Farmer is a late bloomer from Philadelphia who’s career started off really rocky with four losses. He employs a slick style and high ring IQ to win fights.
Hopefully boxing fans will get this fight in the second or third quarter of this year!
