Robert Helenius Seeking Championship Goals Through Deontay Wilder!

When it was first announced that Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius (31-3, 20 KO’s) would be fighting Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KO’s), many quickly wrote Helenius off. This thought became even more prevalent when some came to realize that Helenius was a long-time sparring partner of Wilder. Naturally, The Nordic Nightmare is paying this train of thought little mind.

If anything, Helenius, who is ranked #2 (WBA) and #10 (WBC), believes that his previous sessions with The Bronze Bomber will be a benefit to him. In fact, aside from Wilder, The Nordic Nightmare has served as a sparring partner for several big-time fighters. And come fight night, as he explained to Fight Hype, Helenius feels all this experience will aid him.

“I’ve been sparring before Wilder, I’ve been in Klitschko camp, [Alexander] Povetkin camp, even David Haye and Anthony Joshua camps, sparring them. So, I have a lot of experience behind me. I also have 250 amateur fights before I turned pro, so I’ve been on a long journey in this boxing world.”

SUCCESS OR SADNESS

While Helenius is confident that he will be victorious in his and Wilder’s upcoming October 15 duel, he is aware that it’s a dangerous fight. Due to this realization, The Nordic Nightmare is doing what needs to be done in preparation.

“Well I think that I have to be more aggressive than in my former fights and push forward and have my reaction time better than ever. And have the conditioning to keep my concentration and be alert at all times for 12 rounds […] I think it’s going to be a tough fight, I don’t see it as an easy opponent. Like I said, he is a tough fighter and he has shown that and proven that in previous fights. So I am coming in this fight and giving everything because my dream has always been to be a world heavyweight champion and I am going to do everything in my power to become that!”

Time will tell if he did all of what he was supposed to in camp and if the previous experience will make a difference!
