Jadier Herrera Overcomes Adversity To Beat Ricardo Nunez

In a tough test against a crafty veteran, Jadier “One Billion” Herrera remained undefeated after stopping Ricardo “El Cientifico” Nunez after getting up off the canvas. In addition, he won the WBC interim lightweight title, which could lead to his elevation to world champion.

After getting knocked down in the opening round, One Billion found success with the straight left hand. He managed to hurt the veteran a few times, but couldn’t seem to avoid Nunez’s right hand. As both men traded hard shots, it was Herrera getting the best of the exchanges.

In round eight, Herrera landed a powerful right hook that severely hurt El Cientifico. After he landed one more hard shot, the referee quickly stopped the fight. In this author’s opinion, the referee should have given the veteran a chance to make a comeback.

This was a significant win for the Cuban, as WBC champion Shakur Stevenson could leave the division following a win over WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez. Herrera will need to polish up on the defense and inside fighting, as Nunez was successful early in the fight.

Featured in 3Kingsboxing’s Prospect Watch, Herrera is on the verge of fulfilling his dream of becoming a legend.
