Jamel Herring and Bomac Part Ways and Manny Robles Steps In!

Former WBO 130-pound champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (23-3, 11KOs) and trainer Brian “Bomac” McIntyre have decided to discontinue their working relationship. The four years together proved to be quite successful as Herring captured the WBO title from Masayuki Ito in their first fight together in May of 2019. Herring would go on to make three successful title defenses. However, his reign came to an end after Shakur Stevenson dominated him, scoring a tenth TKO stoppage in their October 2021 fight.

This move comes as a surprise due to the fact that Herring and McIntyre seemed to have an excellent relationship. But at 36 years of age, it’s clear that Herring’s best days are behind him. Also, McIntyre has a growing stable of fighters who are on the rise or may be deemed more of a top priority than that of the former world champion.

HERRING FINDS A NEW TRAINER!

As one relationship ends, another begins. Herring, who’ll be returning to the ring on May 21, will do so with a new head man leading his corner. According to his advisor, Jerry Casarez, Herring will be trained by Manny Robles. Robles, one of boxing’s top trainers, will look to help Semper Fi get back on track after the loss to Stevenson.

Will the two have similar success to that of Herring and Bomac? I’m sure Jamel Herring is hoping so.
