Jamel Herring may face mandatory Lamont Roach Jr. next!
WBO super featherweight champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring could possibly be facing undefeated challenger Lamont Roach Jr. During an interview with TalkBox, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum indicated this fight could take place in November.
The 33-year old WBO champion overcame two early career losses to work his way back into title contention. He would shock the entire boxing community by defeating Masayuki Ito in impressive fashion.
Now, looking to continue the momentum, he could be defending his belt against a young hungry challenger.
Roach is a 23-year old boxer and currently #1 rated by the WBO. He is relatively unknown and is on a three-fight win-streak since suffering a draw to Orlando Cruz in 2018. This is undoubtedly the biggest of test his career as he makes the attempt to go from contender to champion.
It’s also worth mentioning this means Top Rank and Golden boy will be working together to make this fight happen. The junior lightweight division is extremely deep and hopefully we will start to see some unification match-ups soon.
3kingsboxing will continue to monitor this story for further development.
