Bernard Hopkins Wowed by Jaime Munguia’s Knockout Win!
One of the greatest defensive wizards to ever step foot in the squared circle, Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, dished out praise to former WBO junior middleweight champion Jamie Munguia (35-0, 28KOs).
Munguia, 23, made a successful middleweight debut. He managed taking out the formidable middleweight and super middleweight contender Gary O’Sullivan (30-4, 21KOs) in eleven rounds. The win and performance of Munguia in an entertaining fight was impressive enough for “Bhop” to sing his praises.
Speaking to fighthype.com after the fight, Hopkins said the following on the knockout.
“Ah man for you to even ask the reaction is wow! It was hmm, look when you talk about knockouts and gaining more fans that’s what you do and I think he gained a whole lot of fans, based on the knockout and the way he did it. That’s what the fans want to see, it doesn’t always happen. Tonight, it did.”
The Mexican slugger has major appeal among fans due to his fan-friendly style and punching power, which leads to his all action-packed fights.
The win over O’Sullivan places him in the drivers seat for a title opportunity in his second weight class against WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (28-0, 17KOs).
It’ll be interesting to see if Munguia can have similar success at middleweight as he did as a junior middleweight. Only time will tell. Needless to say he’s got the attention of the great Bernard Hopkins.
