WBO middleweight mandatory contender Liam “The Machine” Williams (22-2-1, 17ko), is looking to pick a fight instead of sitting on his guaranteed title shot. The 27-year-old British boxer has a laser beam eye on former WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (35-0, 28ko).

The hard-punching former Mexican champion was impressive in passing the test at middleweight against veteran fighter Gary “Spike” O’ Sullivan (30-4, 21ko). Being a former WBO champion, Munguia moves to the front of the line. Also, immediately following his victory, he called out the top champions of the division.

Williams is currently waiting for the WBO champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade to take care of business against Luke Keeler on January 30. Still, he isn’t going to just sit on the couch doing nothing. He took to that meeting place called social media, calling for a fight with the former Mexican champion.

Williams also took a little jab at the former champion about the WBO Inter-Continental belt that was placed on the shoulder of the Mexican brawler.

Whether the fight gets made or not, it is an intriguing match-up that Golden Boy Promotion should consider. Especially if the consensus is that he isn’t ready just yet for the any of the champions in the division.

Since the writing of this article, there hasn’t been any response from the top brass at Golden Boy Promotions. However, don’t be surprised if something comes down the pipe soon.

The middleweight division is a fire that can’t be contained anymore. The only way to stoke the flames is to make the best fights with all the top champions and contenders.
