Hughie Fury vs Alexander Povetkin possible August 31.

3kingsboxing.com has learned former world title challenger and the cousin of recognized lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Hughie Fury will yet again attempt a successful step up in competition when he takes on former WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin.

The fight will take place on the under-card of the Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell WBC lightweight title fight August 31.

Fury recently announced he had signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. He is looking to get back in big fight contention after a dominant but sloppy win over former WBC champion Samuel Peter on July 7.

Povetkin, who’s now 39 years old and clearly past his prime, will look to of relevance again with a win. Even in the twilight of his career, you’d have to favor him since he’s more skilled and has the experience advantage. Over thirteen years as a pro, he fought the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Marco Huck, Chris Byrd, Hasim Rahman, Ruslan Chagaev and Anthony Joshua, whom all are former champions.

In his last fight, he buzzed Joshua in a scare before ultimately being stopped in the seventh round.

Fury is 0-2 in step up fights losing decisions to former WBO champion Joseph Parker and current IBF #1 contender Kurbat Pulev.

A press conference has been scheduled for July 31 at 12:30 PM ET to announce what presumably will be this bout.
