Michael Hunter and Hughie Fury Set to Rumble in July WBA Eliminator!
Earlier this month, 3Kings Boxing reported that heavyweight contenders Michael “The Bounty” Hunter (20-1-2, 14 KO’s) and Hughie Fury (26-3, 15 KO’s) were racing toward a showdown. Now, this has shifted from speculation to fact as reported by Hunter. According to The Bounty, the two will face one another on July 2 in a WBA title eliminator. The massive US versus UK dustup will be staged in the O2 Arena located in Manchester.
When last in the ring, Hunter, who is ranked #2 (WBA), #8 (WBO) and #12 (WBC), picked up the second draw of his professional career against Jerry Forest. Sandwiched between his first draw, with Alexander Povetkin, Hunter collected two fourth round stoppages of Mike Wilson and Shawn Laughery. Unlike The Bounty, Fury, who is ranked #3 (WBA) and #14 (IBF), is currently riding a three-fight win streak since suffering his last pro loss to common opponent Alexander Povetkin.
Winning this upcoming eliminator has the potential to drastically alter the trajectory of their careers in a very beneficial manner. Let’s hope that no injuries or other calamity gets in the way of this meaningful prizefight.
