Michael Hunter eyes Filip Hrgovic for IBF title eliminator!
Heavyweight contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter (19-1-1, 13KOs) appears to be closing in on an opportunity to secure a world title bout sometime in the future. Taking to his Twitter account, the California native revealed that the IBF had ordered him and former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin to fight in a title eliminator. However, he said that Martin had pulled out.

Hunter, ranked fourth, is now in line to face rising Croatian and IBF’s #5 heavyweight prospect Filip Hrgovic (12-0, 10KOs). Hunter has already stated he’s ready to go, at this moment there’s been no word on behalf of Hrgovic. Assuming Hrgovic accepts this fight, it would be by far the toughest fight in his young career. Hunter has fought the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Alexander Povetkin, Sergiy Kuzmin and Alexander Ustinov.

This would be both men’s first fight of 2021. I, for one, hope this fight happens. It will show us where Hrgovic stands in terms of his readiness for that next level of competition. As for Hunter, this is a prime spot with a guaranteed title shot up for grabs; an opportunity that he has sought since moving up to the heavyweight division.
