The WBSS targets America to showcase Inoue vs Rodriguez!


Emmanuel Rodriguez defended his IBF bantamweight title in defeating Jason Moloney by split decision during the quarterfinals of the WBSS tournament October 20. WBA Bantamweight Naoya Inoue attended the bout to scout his the winner who will be his next opponent. He previously destroyed Juan Carlos Payano in one round in his quaterfinals appearance.

A semifinal showdown between Rodriguez and Inoue is set. While the date and specific locale of the bout has yet to be announced, 3KingsBoxing has learned that the bout will take place in the U.S.

Inoue spoke to the Japanese press recently, stating he is expecting the bout to take place in the Spring of 2019. Promoter Hideyuki Ohashi supported his sentiment.

He also mentioned he felt the Puerto Rican champion would be the toughest opponent of his career. He applauded him on his use of angles, his skills and technique. Despite the high praise given, Inoue also told the Japanese press he did note some flaws with as well.

The Japanese star made his U.S debut as part of the HBO super flyweight card in September 2017. In front of thousands of American fans, he systematically broke down and stopped Antonio Nieves in six rounds.

Over the last year, the legend and myth of Inoue seemed to only grow with his move up to bantamweight; blasting out Jamie McDonnell to win the WBA Bantamweight title. The destruction of Payano added to his growing world-wide popularity.

U.S. hardcore boxing heads have been wondering and anticipating the opportunity to see the Japanese dynamo fight in the States again. Fans will get that opportunity in 2019!
