Naoya Inoue And Marlon Tapales Want Undisputed Fight Next
Newly crowned unified super bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue (25-0, 22KO) is looking toward an undisputed showdown with unified champion Marlon Tapales (37-3, 19KO).
The boxing community is still buzzing after witnessing the Monster’s dominant performance over Stephen Fulton. An argument can be made that Inoue controlled all four major criteria for scoring a fight. Inoue finished off Fulton with power in the eighth round.
CROWNING THE SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT KING
The newly crowned unified champion did not get a chance to savor the moment for long. Tapales entered the ring to issue a challenge.
“I want to fight Naoya Inoue because I want to prove to myself that I am a champion.”
Marlon Tapales, unified champion
Monster quickly accepted and called for the fight by the end of this year.
“Let’s do this. This year.”
Naoya Inoue, unified champion
This is great news for the boxing world. We won’t have to wait another year to see these two unified champions get it on for undisputed.
On April 8, Tapales scored an upset over Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev by securing a split decision victory for the unified titles. In addition, he has maintained the desire to fight the winner of Inoue-Fulton, and it seems that wish will be granted.
If both teams agree to terms, boxing fans can look for this match-up as part of the traditional Japanese end-of-the-year fight card.
