Arnold Khegai Has WBO Champ Robeisy Ramirez In his Sight
WBO’s number two rated featherweight contender, Arnold “Arni” Khegai (20-1-1, 12KO), might be next in line to face current WBO champion Robeisy Ramirez (12-1, 7KO).
On July 25, Ramirez successfully defended the title against Satoshi Shimizu. The two-time Cuban gold medalist proved why he was the heavy favorite heading into the fight by scoring a sensational fifth-round knockout. In addition, he scooped up the vacant title with a dominant performance against former world champion Isaac Dogboe on April 1.
Khegai is in the perfect position to emerge as the leading candidate to fight Ramirez next. The Ukrainian is coming off a stellar fourth-round knockout victory over Freddy Lainez in Dubai on July 22, a performance that showcased his skills.
Notably, Khegai secured a hard-fought split decision win over tough title challenger Eduardo Baez in December 2022. He suffered a lone defeat against unified super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton in January 2020. He has since bounced back with an impressive four-fight win streak.
The WBO’s number one contender, Joet Gonzalez, is currently scheduled to face IBF champion Luis Lopez. So, Khegai finds himself in an ideal position to claim his shot at the title. His determination and recent successes make him a formidable challenger for the WBO featherweight championship.
