International Boxing Hall Of Fame postpones inductions until 2021
June has a special place in the hearts of all whom share a passion and love for the combat sport known as the “sweet science”. Every June in Canastota, New York, the sport’s greatest fighters, men and women, as well as promoters, writers and referees who’ve left their mark in the mark, come back to get their proper adulation; their enshrinement and official induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
However this year’s 2020 class will have to wait until 2021 to be welcomed into the legendary fraternity.
The current coronavirus pandemic has KO’d the 31st annual ceremony.
Due to be elected was two division world champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (55-8-2, 32KOs) who reigned supreme at middleweight and light heavyweight, multi-weight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs), as well as multi-weight champion and former P4P number one fighter in the world Sugar Shane Mosley (49-10-1, 41KOs).
Also set to be inducted along side the three aforementioned fighters are legendary women’s boxers Christy Martin and Lucia Rijker. They were elected in the first year that women’s boxers had a category included.
This distinctive class gave fans some memorable nights of action throughout the course of their respective careers. It’s unfortunate that they will have to wait another year before officially being enshrined. However, next year’s induction will be sure to have even more fanfare. 2021 likely inductees will include Floyd Mayweather, Wladimir Klitschko and Miguel Cotto.
2021 will be a big year for the international Hall Of Fame.
