Ioka looking to return for the Super Flyweight three card!
On January 2, 2018 former 2x minimumweight, junior flyweight and flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka announced his retirement from sport of boxing while still in his prime at age 28. Marrying popular Japanese female singer Nana Tanimura caused some dissension with Ioka and his father/trainer Kazunori Ioka.
The prevailing thought was that Ioka was happy with life, satisfied with his career and lost the desire to fight again.
Well, that prevailing thought was wrong. During a press conference earlier today in Tokyo, he announced plans come out of retirement and fight again. His comeback fight will be his debut
in the U.S. as part of the SuperFly 3 card on Sept. 8 in Inglewood, Ca.
In addition, not only will Kazuto be coming out of retirement to part a part of SuperFly 3, 3KingsBoxing has also learned Ioka will move his base of operations to Los Angeles.
Also, he recently inked a promotional deal with Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions!
While no opponent has been named as of this present time, Ioka’s next fight and future in the ring will
be as a super flyweight. This division is already a stacked with the likes of IBF champion Jerwin
Ancajas, WBA champion Kal Yafai, talented vets Juan Estrada and Donnie Nietes and of course the
division kingpin, WBC champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
Now with the arrival of Ioka, the division has become that much stronger with potential big bouts throughout the division.
If you’re a fan of lower-weight fighters, this is a very significant news development. 3KingsBoxing will keep you updated as far as who Ioka’s opponent will be for his U.S. debut.
