Longtime relationship between fighter and trainer may be over
Is the longtime relationship between eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach over?
Originally Roach had said that he hasn’t talked to Pacquiao in regards to anything much less his potential fight with Lucas Matthysse. Roach also said that he attempted to call Pacquiao several times but hasn’t gotten any return calls.
Yesterday Pacquiao’s promotion company, MP Promotions, sent out a press release stating that a fight between him and Matthysse was finalized for June 24th in Malaysia. The release had no mention of Roach when listing Pacquiao’s team. Instead the press release specifically mentioned that “Restituto ‘Buboy’ Fernandez, Nonoy Neri and Roger ‘Haplas’ Fernandez will take charge once the training camp starts.”
The statement also said that “Pacquiao will start his training in the middle of April in his own Wild Card Boxing Gym in General Santos City. Training will transfer to Manila from May 14 to June 1 then back to Gensan from June 2 until the second week of June.”
3KingsBoxing.com tried contacting Roach, who has a fighter, Scott Quigg, fighting tomorrow in Los Angeles, but our text and voice messages have not been returned at time of publishing.
