Kanat Islam, dubbed “The Next Gennady Golovkin” plans a return in 2019!

Rising undefeated super welterweight Kanat Islam (25-0, 20KO) has started training again and is hoping to finally return. Since defeating Brandon Cook in 2017 ,the 34 year-old fighter’s career was halted due to sidelining injuries.

The Kazakh fighter is well known for his power, which many have compared to stablemate Gennedy Golovkin. Egis Kilmas manages both of these fighters. After winning a Bronze medal in the 2008 Bejing Olympic games, he turned pro in 2012. He immediately grabbed the attention of many pundits with a string of devastating knockouts.

Islam spoke to the press saying:

“I started the training process at the AIBA boxing academy. I am now conducting intensive training, preparing for a fight.”

The goal is to fight in July while looking to get his career into motion. In a division loaded with talent and tough match-ups, for the aged fighter, the clock is ticking. Although there hasn’t been any official announcement, it’s safe to say that the first fight back will be a light touch to remove any ring rust.
