Oscar De La Hoya wants doubleheader featuring Canelo Alvarez and Jamie Munguia taking on the Charlo brothers
Ever sat back and dreamed of a card that featured Canelo Alvarez taking on Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia taking on Jermell Charlo? If your answer is yes, don’t worry you’re not the only one.
Oscar De La Hoya has too apparently!
The Golden Boy promoter stated in a recent interview it’s something he’s targeting to make happen. Before you get all excited, remember this is boxing and politics always plays a role in whether a fight happens.
In this case both Charlo brothers are under the PBC banner, which is exclusively aligned with Showtime and FOX. Alvarez and Munguia fight exclusively on DAZN. With those roadblocks in the way, it makes things especially hard considering every relevant boxing entity has exclusive deals with different networks.
So, lets get back to dreaming.
A fight between Canelo and Jermall would be a fantastic match-up that would pit two very skilled boxers against each other. Jermall is the stronger puncher with a good jab and will seek the knockout if given the opportunity. Alvarez on the other hand is a notorious body puncher, gifted with an iron chin and good upper body movement.
Munguia vs Jermell would be a battle of will vs skill. In this Charlo twin you have a technical fighter with sneaky knockout power. In addition, he is very good defensively and can fight from the outside behind his jab.
Munguia is a come forward fighter who does great work to the body. What he lacks in skill, he makes up for with high volume.
While it’s great that De La Hoya wants to make these fights happen, they all would still need to come to the table and overcome the politics. Also, never rule out the Charlo brothers jumping ship to DAZN in the future to pursue bigger fights in their respective divisions.
