Jacobs vs Canelo possible in the future if…
Eddie Hearn recently stated Daniel Jacobs will face unified middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in May if he defeats Sergey Dervachenko October 27. This statement comes post the major deal Alvarez signed with DAZN.
Before the unified champion ultimately reached an agreement to fight Golovkin in their rematch, Golden Boy negotiated with Jacobs as a possible substitution.
Hearn had this to say on the matter:
“Obviously, we’re all in the same boat.
“We’re all on the same platform, so I think that there’s an excellent chance that if Danny Jacobs can win the world title next Saturday that he will go on to fight Canelo in May. That’s the carrot for Danny Jacobs.”
Matchroom Boxing has a setup of 32 dates per year with DAZN. Additionally, with Alvarez signing a five-year, eleven-fight deal worth $365 million, this bout would be easier to make.
He returns December 15 against Rocky Fielding where he’ll challenge for the WBA regular super middleweight title. A win would make him a three division world champion.
