Jaime Munguia is Prepared to Face the Middleweight Champions!
Not long after making easy work of D’Mitrius “Big Meech” Ballard (21-1-1, 13KOs) in three rounds, top middleweight contender Jaime Munguia (39-0, 31KOs) issued a message to the champions in the 160-pound division.
“We are ready for those title shots. We are ready for the best fighters, whoever may come.”
The hard-hitting, unbeaten Mexican fighter currently sits atop the WBO and WBC rankings at #1. He is also at #12 in the IBF and #3 in the WBA. Obviously, being ranked number one in two different sanctioning body organizations gives him options.
Demetrius Andrade is soon to vacate his WBO title to move to super middleweight. This opens a chance to face Zhanibek Alimkhanuly for the vacant title, a bout with major appeal. If he elects to go the WBC route, a showdown against hard-hitting unbeaten champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo is there. However, a final title eliminator could be mandated between him and Carlos Adames, who’s coming off the biggest victory of his career against Sergey Derevyanchenko.
Munguia has been criticized of late due his lack of interest in taking on top-tier fighters when presented the opportunity. At one point, WBO middleweight champion Andrade called for a fight with his mandatory challenger in Munguia.
Also, the WBC mandated he face Derevyanchenko in a final title eliminator to determine the next mandatory challenger for Charlo. Instead of accepting that fight, he would choose to face Gabe Rosado.
Let’s hope his next ring outing is across from either a champion in his division or a legitimate top middleweight contender.
