Derrick James: Kell Brook is Crawford’s Stiffest Test to Date

In recent weeks, Kell “Special One” Brook (39-2, 27 KO’s) has become very vocal about fighting the champions at 147. Chief among those names are WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s) and WBO world welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27 KO’s).

The UK native is well aware that Crawford is hurting for a big name adversary and he is ready to fit the bill. For his part, Errol Spence Jr’s chief second, Derrick James, feel that’s a great match-up. In his opinion, for all that Bud has done in the sport, the Special One would still make for the biggest potential scalp on his professional resume as he told to Fight Hub TV.

“I think that would be the first fighter, real fighter that Terence has ever fought. He haven’t fought before! He ain’t fought nobody. I mean like a top tier fighter who is just as athletic as he is. Postol, we didn’t know who he was, they told us who he was.

“The guy from France, we didn’t know who he was, they told us who he was. So like I said, the first real fight, somebody competitive, same skill-set then we’ll see what it is. I don’t know.”

THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL

While James maybe somewhat up in the air when it comes to the outcome of Crawford and other top flight fighters, he is much clearer on the subject of Spence Jr. If Brook were to have his wish granted, and get another shot at the Truth, James is certain the results would be the same, if not worse. When he thinks about the Special One, Derrick James doesn’t harbor any real animosity but he can’t see a different outcome manifesting.

“Say that again, he [Kell Brook] thought he was winning until he got stopped. That’s the basis of the story. It was say maybe three rounds to two, you know? Whatever it is but there was no way he was winning the fight.

“He was getting beat up.”

It’ll be interesting, and telling, to see who all of these fighters slide into the ring with next. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing for all the latest news boxing news and updates.
