Jaron Ennis and Chris Van Heerden go home without a victory due to an early cut!
Rising Philadelphia welterweight prospect Jaron “Boots” Ennis (26-0, 24KOs) looking to make impressive statement as a card headliner. He is seen by many fans as the best prospect in boxing. Unfortunately, a clash of heads between him and Chris Van Heerden (28-2, 12KOs) would halt the promising performance.
Ennis would come out clicking on all cylinders unleashing his full offensive arsenal on his clearly over-matched opponent. As we have seen many times between an orthodox fighting a southpaw, head clashes can come in abundance. In this case, both men would bump heads after the two traded left hands. This opened a severe cut on the forehead of Heerden who would immediately start to bleed profusely
Without hesitation, the fight was called off. Since the fight ended before four rounds could be completed, the bout was called a no-decision.
It’s unfortunate for Ennis as he was clearly on his way to picking up another knockout victory. So far he is currently ranked #7, #10 and #12 by the WBO, IBF and WBC respectively. A win would have helped his march up those rankings. Instead he has to go back to the drawing board and prepare for his next fight.
