Jermall Charlo Says He’s Next For Canelo Alvarez!

WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (33-0, 22KO) revealed that a fight with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (60-2-2, 39KO) will happen in September. During a live social feed with former NFL star Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson, Hit Man spilled the beans.

“Imma fight Canelo. I’m gonna get my brother’s revenge in September. Y’all just hearing it now.”

The Texan was supposed to have fought Canelo, but decided to forgo the fight and let his brother Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo fight instead in September 2023. Fans are still upset at the performance of the Iron Man as he looked ridiculous and uninterested against the Mexican mega-star.

IT DOESN’T MOVE THE NEEDLE

The middleweight champion has only fought once since June 2021. *That was a unanimous decision victory over Jose Benavidez Jr in November 2023.

Yes, the Hit Man is still an undefeated world champion. However, in a sport where your most recent performance often judges you, what has the 33-year-old done to warrant a fight with the undefeated super middleweight champion? Before his extended hiatus, Charlo was arguably the best middleweight in the world. Now, he’s considered one of the sport’s biggest enigmas.

This announcement by Texan is not a surprise among boxing insiders. But the question is, how practical and exciting is a Canelo Alvarez versus Jermall Charlo in 2024? Not very.

Many fans would prefer to see Alvarez face the two-time WBC champion, David Benavidez. If Canelo fights Charlo in September, it would be a matchup that would draw a lot of backlash and viewed as disappointing.
