Thomas LaManna Hopes Jermall Charlo Gets Better Mentally

Two-divisional champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo’s (33-0 22KO) mental issues seems to be an ongoing problem. With his super middleweight fight against Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (38-5-1, 17KO) no longer in play, Hit Man may need to walk away from the sport.

The Texan was due to return on the WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis vs WBA junior lightweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. Cornflake took to social media to inform fans the fight will no longer be taking place. In addition, he revealed the cancelation was due to Charlo not being ready.

IT’S NOW OR NEVER

These long periods of absence by Charlo are starting to happen more frequently. His last appearance in the ring was against one-time welterweight title challenger Jose Benavidez in 2023. Before that fight, he was out of the ring for over two years and only fought once in 2021.

This author isn’t surprised by this considering there were plenty of red flags Charlo wasn’t ready to fight again. He stated that drinking was fun, followed by a public DUI car crash in 2024. Charlo continues to prove that with more time his hands something bad could happen. It is time for him to accept that boxing is no longer a priority, and his desire to fight has faded away.

He knew months ago this fight was going to happen and failed to get ready. Pulling out of the fight looks even worse since LaManna is seen as a soft touch. If he isn’t back in the ring before the year ends, then Charlo should retire and focus on overcoming those inner demons.
