Jermall Charlo Itching to Get Caleb Plant in the Ring

The bitterness between reigning WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) and former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) is real. It’s something that goes back for many years. Charlo is now promising to give Plant a beatdown and knock him out should they meet in the ring.

Charlo and Plant made headlines when they got into a heated argument at the weigh-in for the undisputed welterweight title fight between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence in July 2023. What was initially trash-talk became physical after Plant smacked Charlo in the face.

The middleweight champion hasn’t gotten over the incident. Charlo went on social media and said the following about the person he now views as his sworn enemy:

“When I get the chance to fight Caleb Plant, I’m knocking the fuck out of Caleb Plant.”

Boxing is full of in and out-of-the-ring rivalries. It’s attention-grabbing and makes for great fodder for fans to opine about on social media and boxing message boards. The beef between these two men is one of the biggest currently in the sport.

TIME TO SETTLE THINGS IN THE RING

With all their bickering, do not be surprised if work is being done behind the scenes to make a match a reality. There’s nothing like legit contempt to fuel a potential matchup. Were they to fight, the slap heard all around boxing would be a big part of the pre-fight promotion.

Sweethands has been inactive since a unanimous decision loss to David Benavidez in March 2023. Charlo’s last ring appearance was in June 2021. After teasing a comeback for several months, news has come down the pipeline that Hit Man will return to the ring on November 25 against Jose Benavidez Jr..

An impressive win from Charlo against Benavidez Jr. would be the perfect catalyst for a possible grudge match with Plant in early 2024. The fighters want the fight and timing is everything. Now more than ever, it feels like this is the right moment for this grudge bout to occur.
