Jermell Charlo And Tim Tszyu Agree To Rumble
Well it appears there will be no need to send a fight between undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KO’s) and Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (21-0, 15 KO’s) to a purse bid. This is because the two have already agreed to fight.
This news was delivered to ESPN Knockout by WBO president Francisco Varcarcel. At the tail end of May, the sanctioning body ordered the two to collide as reported by 3Kings Boxing. Clearly it did not take long for the camps to get on the same page.
In his last bout, Charlo violently usurped all the 154-pound titles by besting Brain Castano. It was an immediate rematch to their previous duel which ended in a draw. In the second encounter, Iron Man removed all doubt by stopping Castano in the tenth. As was to be expected, the obligation of all those titles, and their subsequent defenses have already begun to weigh upon the undisputed champ. Thankfully answering the call of duty doesn’t seem to be a problem for the dominant champion.
For his part, Tszyu has looked very impressive as he climbed through the ranks. To date almost all of his wins have come in his native Australia, however, the Soul Taker did find conquest on American soil in his last bout. In that fight, the #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC) and #3 (IBF) ranked Tszyu out-boxed former Olympian and one-time world title challenger Terrell Gausha. As one would expect, Tszyu has been very vocal about getting his shot at Charlo. It will be fun to see how he handles this opportunity that’s upon him although no date or venue has been set.
