Ancajas Stops Conlan In 6

Jerwin Ancajas walked right through Jamie Conlan today in Belfast. The Philippine native came out scoring a knock down in the very first round and subsequently one every round but the second and fifth. Ancajas was able to control the pace throughout as he looked sharp and simply just a class above Conlan.
Ancajas beat Conlan to the punch and hurt him with body shots throughout the fight. In the first round it appeared to be a body shot that Conlan had a late reaction to. In the second stanza Ancajas controlled the pace and in the third he was able to hurt Conlan with a series of body shots that put the Irishman down again. The fourth round was more of the same with yet another body shot putting Conlan on the canvas once again. In round five Conlan did a little better but not enough to win the round even with Ancajas being deducted a point for low blows after he was previously warned twice by the referee. In the sixth round he caught Conlan with a sharp hook to the head as the Irishman got up from the canvas the ref decided it was enough.
The Filipino improved to 28-1-1 with 19ko. He is looking to lock up a fight with WBO super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue in the near future, possibly as early as February 24th on the HBO “Super Fly” 2 card.
Ancajas is promoted by Manny Pacquiao and is a southpaw like his idol. Could he be the next big thing to come out of the Philippines? Only time will tell but right now he appears to be on the right path. One thing is certain, a win over a current top 10 P4P fighter would go a long way towards that goal.
