In the co main event of Top Rank on ESPN from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas Jerwin Ancajas improved to 29-1-1 with 20KOs with a knockout victory over Israel Gonzalez (21-2, 8KOs) in the tenth round. It was a sensational performance by Ancajas who used his jab to set up his offense throughout the whole fight. He was able to score a knockdown in the first round when he landed a beautiful left hook.

Gonzalez was game and kept coming forward but struggled throughout the fight to find his range. In the third round a game Gonzalez came out landing some beautiful body shots at the beginning of the round clearly trying to change the tempo of the fight. By the fourth it was clear that Ancajas could land his straight left at will as Gonzalez would go straight back and constantly failed to bring his hands back after punching.

In the fifth round Gonzalez was able to have some success coming forward bringing the fight to Ancajas. By sixth round however Ancajas was able to use his jab and box patiently making Gonzalez pay for every mistake. Ancajas continued dominating the fight when finally in the tenth round he threw a beautiful straight left that dropped Gonzalez and hurt him badly. Shortly after Gonzalez beat the count Ancajas landed a haymaker left hook that scored him the knockout victory.

It was good display by Ancajas who made American debut and is constantly being compare to fellow countryman Manny Pacquiao. If there was one thing he could do better is learn to go to body more but he box beautifully, took his time and got the knockout.
