Jesse Rodriguez Looks Impressive in Win

Rodriguez defeats Reyes over eight rounds

Highly touted light flyweight prospect and protege of Robert Garcia Jesse Rodriguez, looked impressive in Ontario, California against Edwin Reyes!

Both fighters started fast probing with jabs and landing strong body shots. It became immediately apparent that Rodriguez was the stronger of the two as he visibly stunned Reyes with several big shots.

As the fight entered round two, Rodriguez got more comfortable and started incorporating his uppercut. This pattern continued thru round 5 as the Los Angeles native critically hurt Reyes.

The underdog, however, survived without being knocked down. He cleverly clinched when needed, and stayed on his feet. Rodriguez also made the mistake of pot-shotting Reyes instead of throwing combinations.

In round 7 the action picked up as the favorite started putting together power punches, knocking Reyes from pillar to post. His opponent showed a sturdy chin and a big heart as he stayed upright. The finale in round eight provided more of the same with Reyes miraculously surviving to the final bell.

The final scorecards had Rodriguez winning all 8 rounds on two and 7 rounds on the third. The light flyweight prospect improves to 7-0 with 4 knockouts!
