Coach Joe Goossen Sees A Prosperous Boxing Future for Ryan Garcia
In all likelihood, Joe Goossen is a no-brainer future Hall of Fame coach. He has deep familial ties entrenched in the sport dating back the 1980’s. He and his Goossen clan, composed of father and brothers, established 10 Goose Boxing. On the journey that they began, he’s had the opportunity to train many of boxing’s top talents. Notable names includes Riddick Bowe, Joel Casamayor, Edison Miranda, John Molina, Dominick Gunn and Shane Mosely, among many more. Despite this catalogue of fighters however, Goossen still views his fighter, “King” Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KO’s), as a rarity within the elite.
While providing a brief Q&A with Boxing Social, Goossen gave a bit further insight on why he feels King Ryan is in a class of his own. And come April 22, Goossen is comfortable in his belief that Garcia will showcase this reality versus Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 KO’s).
“Ryan’s [camps] specifically are different because Ryan is different – he is a very unique individual. I say it over and over again – he’s unique, he’s got the qualities of a coach . . . I got a feeling that Garcia can be anything he wants to be, as well as he is going to be a great champion for a long time. But if he ever decided to do coaching, he’d be incredible because he is so versatile in his thinking and calculating that it impresses me. And I’ve been doing this a long time!”
AND THE WINNER IS!
The seasoned chief second also added another interesting wrinkle to the typical notion of the coach-fighter relationship.
“You don’t necessarily train Ryan Garcia, and people can take that negatively. You do train him but, on the other hand, you have to collaborate with him because he’s got his ideas and his thoughts and they ring true 99 percent of the time. So for a 24-year-old, he’s got the mind of a brilliant coach as well and this is why he is going to be almost impossible to beat!”
Only time will tell if Goossen’s scouting report will hold true, following their third fight together. Yet, whether it’s win, lose or draw for the talented Californian with the famous left hook, 3Kings Boxing will be on the scene to report all of the relevant news and developments!
