Natasha Jonas to Size Up the Competition in Hannah Rankin v Terri Harper Bout

There is no doubt that the last prizefight for 154-pound champion Natasha Jonas (12-2-1, 8 KO’s) was a beneficial one. In that duel, the UK native was able to thoroughly dominate and defeat Patricia Berghult by a wide unanimous decision. Along with the win, the super welterweight bruiser added Berghult’s WBC title to her own WBO strap.

The natural next contest for Jonas would pit her against the two remaining champions in the division: IBF-champ Marie Eve Dicaire and WBA super welterweight champion Hannah “Hannah the Banger” Rankin (12-5, 3 KO’s). Yet, at the moment, Rankin is already spoken for. This is because Hannah the Banger is scheduled to face Terri Harper on September 24.

One might think that Jonas would be chomping at the bit to scout this upcoming duel with her own eyes. Yet, as she explained to IFL TV, Jonas will be content to watch the showdown from a comfortable place elsewhere.

“I will probably watch it like everybody else! But yeah, it’s a very good and interesting fight and like I say, we’ll see what happens and what doors open and who comes out the champion.”

On the heels of such a great performance, there is no question that Jonas has a bright future. This is why, more than ever, she is happy she took the chance to begin competing at 154 in the first place.

“I just took my opportunities when they came. It just so happens that everything falls into place and I took the opportunity and moved up two weights for the opportunities because everyone else was taken. And it’s worked out for me! Whatever the opportunities are, they’re the ones I keep taking and doors open for a reason.”

Let’s see what’s next for the unified champion.
