Bellew Wants WBO Champ Joseph Parker But…..
Less than 36hrs ago Tony Bellew was scheduled to fight a big money PPV fight with David Haye. As we reported yesterday that bout has been postponed at the very least due to Haye suffering a shoulder injury.
Last month when Kubrat Pulev was forced to pull out of his fight with Anthony Joshua, Matchroom already had Carlos Takam in place to step in. Of course Tony Bellew is not Anthony Joshua but his team is interested in having someone else fill in if possible. According to his team, Bellew is having the best training camp of his career to date and they don’t want to waste it.
While they’re not sure exactly who that replacement may be, Tony’s team said though they would consider a dream world title shot at WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker. However the New Zealand native is not intersted in obliging them.
Parker’s team released a statement earlier, “With the greatest amount of respect to Tony Bellew, we have zero interest in stepping in at short notice and replacing the injured David Haye on December 17. That’s despite our team having 100 percent belief it would be an easy payday and easy win for Joseph Parker. Bellew is not ranked in the top 15 of the WBO and needs reminding he is ineligible for a title shot anyway.”
They also said they’re currently in negotiations with Eddie Hearn for a potential unification showdown with the aforementioned Joshua.
