Joshua Buatsi Wins Interim Title Bout With Willy Hutchinson
In an exciting and lively fight, light heavyweight Joshua Buatsi (19-0, 13 KO’s) toppled Willy “The Hutch Train” Hutchinson (18-2, 13 KO’s) by way of split decision. With the win, Buatsi picked up the WBO interim light heavyweight title.
Hutchinson opened the match as the clear aggressor and enjoyed early success in doing so. Yet, after finding some equilibrium with his jab, Buatsi stabilized the action and put Hutchinson on the back foot.
For the better part of it, Buatsi was the more purposeful and effective of the two. And more than anything, Buatsi’s body attack was causing The Hutch Train the most problems and damage. In fact, body shots would put Hutchinson on the ground in the sixth and ninth rounds. Despite the success that Buatsi was having, Hutchinson managed to consistently rally round after round when it seemed he was just about ready to give out.
Ultimately, there was a bit of suspense as the cards were read, but Buatsi would be awarded the split decision to the tune of 113-112 (Hutchinson), 117-108 (Buatsi), and 115-110 (Buatsi).
