Joe Joyce and Christian Hammer to Battle in London on July 2
Following a full year of inactivity, heavyweight contender “Juggernaut” Joe Joyce (13-0, 12 KO’s) is set to return to action. Barring any unforeseen complications, Joyce will face veteran Christian Hammer (27-9, 17 KO’s) on July 2 in the Wembley Arena located in London. While he is coming off a first-round knockout victory over the frequently knocked out Drazan Janjanin, Hammer has navigated a spotty activity level of late.
In his past seven matches, Hammer has a soggy tally of 3-4. So, it would appear that he is being brought in as a tool for the Juggernaut to continue sharpening his teeth with. Despite his loss-littered record, Hammer has fought a bevy of notable fighters such as Luis Ortiz, Tony Yoka, Hughie Fury, Frank Sanchez and Tyson Fury. Sadly for the Romanian boxer, he lost to each and every one of these competitors.
As for Joyce, ranked #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC) and #6 (IBF), this is likely another opportunity to look good on a very visible stage. Currently the undefeated fighter is riding a three-fight knockout streak that he would love to extend to four in July. In his very last duel, Joyce laid Carlos Takam low in six rounds. In the previous match, he broke the face of Daniel Dubois as well as saddled the promising contender with his first professional loss. Ideally though, with his impressive wins of late, this will not be his only fight of the year as was the case in 2020 for the Queensberry Promotions pushed fighter.
