Joe Joyce wants Luis Ortiz
The weekend of December 1 had everyone focused on Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury! However, there were two other top heavyweights that fought on the same card. Undefeated Joe Joyce (7-0, 7KOs) and Luis Ortiz (30-1, 28KOs) were both victorious, winning their respective bouts by knockout.
Joyce (33), has made it clear it’s time to step-up and has the radar set on the Cuban heavyweight. Team Joyce feels they can hang with Ortiz and be victorious. Trainer Abel Sanchez has added that the former WBC title challenger doesn’t have the talent to beat his fighter.
The British fighter also added there would no issues facing Hugie Fury for the British title or WBA regular title contender Jarrell Miller.
INTERESTING FACTS:
Ortiz’s only defeat came at the hands of Wilder and has won two fights since via knockout. He has never won a world title, but is the former WBA interim champion.
Joyce currently holds the WBA continental title and has never fought an opponent with a losing record.
If both teams can come to an agreement, the event will target another slot on the under-card of a possible Wilder/Fury rematch. Look to keep an eye on Joyce as he is attempting to make some big moves in 2019!
