Juan Carlos Camacho Claims Vacant Title Over Jayson Mama
Following a very competitive bout, Juan Carlos “El Indio” Camacho (18-1, 8 KO’s) defeated Jayson “The Smasher” Mama (20-2, 10 KO’s) by way of split decision. With the spoils of war, Camacho collected the vacant WBO NABO flyweight title.
In this duel of opposing styles, when in his groove, Mama boxed with happy feet. He skipped in and out of punching range while peppering Camacho with the jab. Living up to his name, The Smasher utilized more brute force. He opted to bull his way in behind homerun overhand rights and thumping body shots.
Over the ten rounds, it was a constant ebb and flow of who was in command. Although, Mama was credited with a flash knockdown in the third and a legitimate knockdown in the ninth. While Mama had the cleaner boxing, Camacho’s smashmouth tactics were a bit more eye-catching when his offense was clicking.
Obviously his heavy-handed, attack-dog gameplan was the right fit because despite the two knockdowns, Camacho claimed a split decision victory with the score of 96-92 (Mama) and 96-92, 95-93 for Camacho.
