Juan Francisco Estrada open to facing Srisaket Sor Rungvisai or Roman Gonzalez next!
Moments after his fight of the year candidate with longtime rival Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, newly crowned WBC and WBA super flyweight champion Juan “El Gallo” Estrada (41-3, 28KOs) was asked if a trilogy would be next.
“Rungvisai is the mandatory so I’ll look at that. But I will explore a trilogy with Chocolatito any day!”
Fighting earlier in the same day in his home country, former WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai made easy work of Kwanthai Sithmorseng stopping him in three rounds. Rungvisai maintains the position of WBC mandatory, thus making him the next man up. However, after witnessing such a great fight, will Estrada allow for a trilogy? It’s certainly possible, as these two future Hall of Fame inductees styles’ seem to mesh perfectly.
Estrada is now 1-1 against both Rungvisai and Gonzalez. In February 2018, Rungvisai retained the title he won by knockout over Roman Gonzalez in 2017 with a majority decision win over Estrada. In the immediate rematch, Estrada clearly defeated Rungvisai by unanimous decision to become the WBC champion. With this victory over Gonzalez he has options.
Both possible opponents won’t be a bad selection. This proven by how close and action-packed the bouts have been. As long as these three champions remain relevant, the super flyweight division will continue attract buzz.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the happenings of Estrada and his next move in the coming months.
