WBC Female Bantamweight champion Mariana “Barba” Juárez made an impressive eighth title defense against former title challenger Diana “La Bonita” Fernández on June 15 in Mexico.

This would continue to be the tone of the fight! Fernandez would use vigor in coming forward bullying the champion against the ropes.

In contrast, Juarez had an answer for everything. She found success countering with the over hand right while using her footwork.

The tenth and final round was fought at a high pace. Knowing what was at stake, the challenger came out swinging to the the body. It even appeared at one point she may have buzzed the champion.

However, Juarez would weather the early storm, then rallied back with counters to the body. She would often taunt her opponent to let her know who the champ is!

Both women went out on their shields as the final bell sounded and the fans in an uproar of excitement.

The champion would get the unaminious decision victory in what was undoubtedly a classic bout for women’s boxing.
