.Rough year for Julian “J-Rock” Williams as he tests positive for COVID-19!
Sources have told 3kingsboxing that former unified junior middleweight champion Julian “J-Rock” Williams’ (27-2, 16ko) return bout with two-time title contender Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan (28-3-1, 7ko) has been pushed back due to a positive COVID-19 test result from J-Rock! This news comes as a huge shock as now, the entire December 26 card in jeopardy.
ONE TOUGH YEAR
The former unified champion has had a tumultuous year. First he lost his titles in a hometown title defense against Jeison “Banana” Rosario in January. This was also his first title defense. Next, he split with long-time trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards.
Furthermore, Williams decided to forgo the rematch with Banana and opted to have surgery on his face to address scar tissue under both eyes.
He was hoping to get back to winning by facing Hogan. This would keep him in the hunt for an opportunity to be champion again. Nevertheless, the first quarter of 2021 is targeted for this fight to be rescheduled. Hopefully for him, this becomes reality.
BLESSING IN DISGUISE
Although any news of a positive COVID-19 test should be taken very seriously, in this situation, there is a silver lining here. This can now give him time with possible new trainer Javan “Sugar Hill” Steward. Rumors first surfaced of the two of them working out in the gym together, raising questions about the relationship.
Steward is the same trainer that helped WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury run over former champ Deontay Wilder in their rematch back in February.
COVID-19 is still dealing the sport of boxing some heavy blows but so far has yet to keep it down for the count.
