Kal Yafai wants Roman Gonzalez showdown!
The WBA super flyweight champion wants to secure a big fight soon. In particular, he wants one with former pound for pound number one fighter Roman Gonzalez. Gonzalez, a former four-division champion, will return on September 15. He’ll face Moises Fuentes as part of the Golovkin vs Alvarez undercard.
After suffering back-to-back loses to super flyweight kingpin Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Gonzalez is looking to get back in the win column. A fight between himself and Yafai was talked about as a possibility for this year, but Gonzalez’s handlers felt that was too tough for a return fight.
That, however, hasn’t deterred the WBA champ from wanting that fight. Yafai made his American debut earlier this year on ESPN+, where he scored a stoppage victory over David Carmona.
He’s eyeing a return in October or November against a yet-to-be-known opponent. His fight will likely air on DAZN.
