George Kambosos Belittles Title Belt Held by Tank Davis
On Saturday, May 28, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s) will face the challenge of Rolando Romero in the belly of Brooklyn’s brawl-friendly Barclays Center. In this contest, Davis will defend his Regular WBA lightweight title for the fourth consecutive time. There is little doubt that he feels like a full champion and is very proud of his strap. This is why it was clear that his pride as a fighter was pricked during a recent interview to promote his impending dustup.
In that segment, conducted by Brian Custer, Davis expressed his desire to dance with Devin Haney after being read a clip of Haney sounding disapproving of his leaving Mayweather Promotions. So far nothing has taken place between the two principal characters. This does not mean that nothing has taken place though, as unified lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KO’s) decided to throw his two cents in the pot.
FOOL’S GOLD
When queried about his thoughts regarding Tank Davis, Kambosos was none too impressed nor complimentary. In particular, Ferocious poked fun at the nature of Davis’s title.
“All the best to him, they are fighting for that secondary WBA belt. I saw Tank put out something about Devin Haney, calling him the email champion, I found that funny. Yes, email champ, you can call him that. Pride belt like [WBC president] Mauricio [Sulaiman] said, […] a regular belt. But Tank, you have the regular, secondary WBA belt as well. Don’t forget who’s got the WBA super belt!”
I THINK HE’S YELLOW?!
Provided they win their upcoming bouts, there is little doubt that Tank would want to face the undisputed champion of the world. Along these lines, Kambosos has pondered what a fight with Davis would be like, however evidently is in no rush to face him as he doesn’t even really mention his name. One of the main reasons for this soft snubbing is because Kambosos doesn’t think that Davis would have the heart like Haney to make a trip across the ocean.
“The two biggest names that I wanted were Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko. Now Tank would not come to Australia, that’s a guarantee!”
Let’s see if Tank responds to this inflammatory set of statements later in his own fight week preparation. Yet, whether he does or doesn’t, 3Kings Boxing will be here with the latest developments whatever they are.
