Kameda’s win sets up WBC showdown with Rey Vargas!

Former WBO bantanweight champion Tomoki Kameda (36-2, 20KOs) defeated Abigail Medina (19-3-2, 10KOs) to win the WBC interim title.

The 27 year-old, used his experience, hand speed and ring generalship to secure a unanimous decision victory. This now means the path to undefeated WBC champion Rey Vargas is clear.

Kameda had to vacate the WBO title just before his contest against WBA regular champion Jaime McDonnell because the organization didn’t want to sanction the bout.

Since losing twice, he has spent the last three years fighting back into title contention.

Vargas (32-0, 22KOs) is recovering from surgery on his left hand. It’s speculated that for the last three fights the champion was fighting under 100%.

This fight will be only one of a few reasons to follow this division along with other possible match-ups in 2019!
