Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon set to square off again!
As much as we all wanted to see Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano go down August 22, that, unfortunately, won’t be the case. Perhaps that match-up may still materialize in 2021. However, the August fight date will now hold a sequel to Katie Taylor (15-0, 6KOs) and former WBC lightweight champion Delfine Persoon’s (44-2, 18KOs) 2019 title bout. The undisputed women’s lightweight champion will clash with Persoon at Eddie Hearn’s fight camp in a rematch.
Taylor and Persoon put on one hell of a show on June 1, 2019. Not only was there great action, there was also some drama and controversy. Many spectators viewing the fight felt that Persoon should’ve been declared the winner.
For majority of the fight, Persoon appeared to be the better woman that night. She managed to rough up Taylor, which was evident by the bruises on her face after the final bell.
After the Taylor-Serrano negotiations failed, this opened the door for this mouthwatering rematch being made. Now that it’s official, these two women get to set the record straight!
Taylor will look to end any speculation that she received a “gift” decision, while Persoon will look to confirm the thoughts of many who watched their first fight that she should’ve been the one who was crowned undisputed women’s lightweight champion.
