Will Keith Thurman Versus Tim Tszyu Finally Happen?
In his latest tour of duty, veteran boxer and former champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (31-1, 23 KO’s) notched another win on his belt. Thurman accomplished this by traveling to Australia to collect the scalp of Jarvis Brock by way of third round TKO. It was One Time’s first win in three years. Having finally gotten back in motion, naturally the question shifts to: who is next? When pressed by the media at hand, Thurman revealed his willingness to test his might against Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-2, 17 KO’s).
Thurman and Tszyu were previously setup to go to war before One Time withdrew with injury. This has become a regrettable hallmark of his career. Tsyzu would move from Thurman to a match with Sebastian Fundora that he lost by split decision following considerable bloodshed. Even worse, Tszyu was later stopped in the third round against Bakhram Murtazaliev. Given these two losses, Thurman is not aching with anticipation to sign this particular contract.
“A lot want to fight for the money, I fight for the glory, I fight for the legacy, I fight because I am a fighter . . . At the end of the day, I am open to any contract right now. Tim Tszyu is not finalized. I know that it’s very easy to say, it’s very easy to talk about. He obviously came off the two losses, he needs to get a W.”
SHOW AND PROVE
Obviously, we will have to see more of Thurman before it can be said he is a viable divisional threat. Yet his name alone ensures that he will be a player for the foreseeable future. Let’s just cross fingers on both hands (and feet if you can swing it) that Thurman does not fall victim to any boxing or non-boxing related injuries!
Assuming that he does hold it together, Thurman should have a few more fun and memorable performances to dole out. So let’s see how The Soul Taker handles himself against career underachiever Joseph Spencer on April 6. Provided that Tszyu can take care of business with Spencer and get back in good form, Tszyu versus Thurman does make for an interesting action fight.
