Kenny Porter gives PBC an ultimatum!

Following the huge welterweight unification match up that took place at the Staple Center on September 28 Errol “The Truth” Spence walked away the unified champion. However, many within the boxing community believe the fight was so close they need to run it back!

Father/trainer Kenny Porter spoke with 78SportsTv and expressed the same sentiments.

“From my understanding the arena was sold out or thirteen to twenty thousand people were there! When you pack the house you gotta run it back! I don’t care what you thought if you plan on making Danny Garcia or the next guy it doesn’t matter it ain’t gonna do what this fight just did.

“It’s not going to do the numbers this fight did it’s not going to bring the excitement this fight just had.

“It’s not gonna be fight of the year. I don’t believe two other fighters in the welterweight division can duplicate what we just saw.

“So we pushing for a rematch.”

Porter is speaking about the news that has spread throughout the boxing community of a the unified champion’s next opponent; former WBC champion Danny “Swift” Garcia. When asked what’s next for his son, he didn’t stop there putting even more emphasis on his stance.

“I’m not taking nothing away from Errol, he definitely fought a great fight. But this deserves a rematch the fans deserve it. Danny Garcia, Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman and Terence Crawford all of these guys are great fighters.

“I don’t think anyone of them is in a hurry to fight Shawn Porter. This is where everyone needs to stop whatever your doing an pay extremely close attention.”

Porter mentioning the name of WBO champion Terence Crawford is respectable alone, but it got even better with his following statement.

“If we are offered a fight with any of those guys you think we are turning it down? We’re not turning down any of those fights! We would love to fight Bud Crawford.

“If you guys don’t give me the rematch that I want that’s the best fight out there LET’S DO IT!”

The always vocal trainer didn’t stop there, standing firm on his conviction.

“If the people that are in control of this are listening to this, guys run a rematch and if your not willing to make a rematch then don’t be mad at me if I wanna make a Terence Crawford fight.”

That last two statements is undoubtedly a direct message to the head of the Premier Boxing Champions banner Al Haymon. Top Rank chairman Bob Arum may jump at this opportunity, especially considering a top PBC fighter is looking to take on his champion possibly on ESPN!

Plus given the performance and most fans wanting a rematch, it would be hard pressed to find anyone within the boxing community being upset about it. Although, the WBO champion is expected to face #1 contender Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas in December.

There hasn’t been an official announcement and this would be a perfect time to pump the brakes on that fight and test the seriousness of Porter’s statements.

The same goes for PBC! They can cut this off before a phone call can be made with a promise of a rematch. The Garcia fight is expected to take place on January 25 and he is the WBC #1 contender, however, there is still time to renege on that fight for an opportunity at another unification.

This is a power move by team Porter and a well played one at that! It will be worth waiting and watching to see what’s going happen next. The game has been set and team Porter is ready to play!

Let’s see who makes the first move or if this is a bluff.
