Keyshawn Davis Wants to Wrestle Away Tank’s WBA Title!

Ever since announcing his upcoming match with WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach, WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (11-0, 7 KO’s) has come under a fair amount of criticism. Many are upset that Tank is bringing up a smaller fighter rather than facing one of the many people in and above his division that the fans would love to see him square-off with. Among these critics is lightweight contender Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (30-0, 28 KO’s).

In a recent Q&A session with Fight Hype, The Businessman, ranked #3 (WBO), #3 (IBF) and #3 (WBC), revealed a bit more logic behind his mindset toward the Tank versus Roach duel.

“If Tank wants to fight me, he will fight me. Tank wants to fight Lamont Roach! Lamont Roach is a great champion. He did great things in the amateurs to the pros; he even fought my big brother. Lamont Roach is a great champion. But when you are talking about a Tank Davis, it’s like, ‘come on. bro!’ But hey, once he get that tremendous fight out of the way, if he wants to send me a contract to whoop his ass for his belt, I would be glad to do that!”

CATCH YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE

Throughout his career, Tank Davis has been labeled a cherry picker who either brings fighters up in weight, as he is doing with Roach, or he faces opposition not yet ready for his level of competition. This was the case when he took on Frank Martin in his last duel. The adherence to this frustrating trend is exactly why he is getting the current flack that he is.

As it stands, The Businessman will fight again on November 8, while Tank will compete on December 14. So, barring any injury or losses, these two will be free to dance with one another as early as the first quarter of 2025. Yet, that would have to mean that Tank would be injected with such a desire. Only time will tell if that is the case.

In the meantime, we will have to see how both men perform as it is well known that anything can happen in the boxing ring. And as Davis pointed out, Lamont Roach is not an opponent that should be taken lightly. There is a reasonable possibility that even if Roach does not prevail, he could potentially knock a lot of luster off the current Tank Davis hype train. So, let’s wait for these two matches to unfold and reveal their outcomes.
