Negotiations Are In Place For Knockout CP Freshmart To Return To the Ring May 29 In Thailand
Minimumweight, given it’s name, is the smallest division in boxing. It is often overlooked and viewed as an afterthought, just for the liking of hardcore boxing heads. But that does not mean the division lacks its good share of craftsmen. WBA ‘Super’ World champion Knockout CP Freshmart (21-0, 7 KOs) is viewed by pundits as the best in the division. The 30-year-old from Surin, Thailand last fought in March of 2020 when he defeated Norihito Tanaka.
Freshmart has been inactive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, word comes that he is on the verge of returning to the ring. In January of 2020, we reported the champ could return to the ring in May. Here is an update on that situation.
According to source Asian Boxing, negotiations are underway for the champion to return on May 29. Pongsalek Sithdadnij (23-6-1, 13 KOs) is being looked at as the opponent. The bout would take place in Freshmart’s home country of Thailand. To view Sithdadnji’s record, he is on a six-fight winning streak. The problem is, all those wins are against low-caliber competition.
No official announcement had been made, but this looks to be little more than a tune-up bout described as a world title bout. Stay tuned to 3KingsBoxing for further updates.
